Family Vacation 2011 - Hot Springs, Arkansas

We spent 8 days in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on a family vacation with the g'rents. It was a good trip! (It would have been even better if I wasn't so sick with morning sickness though!)

Brandon's first steps on Arkansas soil...er, well....asphalt!
Saturday was Smithsonian Magazine's Museum Day. You could go online and print a coupon for two free admissions to certain museums across the country. We lucked out that the Mid America Science Museum in Hot Springs was participating in the event, so all 5 of us got in free! There were LOTS of hands-on exhibits for kids of all ages to play with.

He knew something wasn't right about his reflection in the funhouse mirrors.
LOTS and LOTS of building blocks to play with
Xylophone time
World's largest Tesla Coil. This made Brandon jump and scoot close to Dad! It was loud!
Digging up dinosaur bones
We stayed in a condo right on the lake. We could go out on the patio and watch the boats dock and see the geese and ducks swimming around. (We also made sure to pick a place that kept their heated pool open after Labor Day!)
Checking out the view
He was not a big fan of being in the water...
...he preferred to be outside of it.
Downtown Hot Springs
We spent one day walking around downtown Hot Springs. Beautiful old architecture, hot springs galore, and a fab (cheap) lunch at the rehab center on the hill (no kidding!).

Yup, that's hot water!
We spent another day at Crater of Diamonds State Park. We were on a mission to find the next big find! No luck though.

Geared up and ready to hunt!
Hunting....
....still hunting

We had a day or two of just hanging out at the condo. Swimming, playground, bubbles, movies, snacks. Good times.

Holy Cow Creamery was just around the corner from our resort, so we had to go at least once for ice cream!

Holy cow! That's a cow!

Mmmmm!
On our last morning in Hot Springs, we ate at a local cafe and this was their carpet. Arkansans are serious about their school pride when they put in carpet like this!

We stopped by Arkansas' best kept secret on the way home....Leslie, Arkansas!
