...material items. (Not food! Never food!) With all this packing to slim down our belongings inside the house while it's on the market, it has sparked a need to downsize... especially clothes. And I am working on downsizing with the following techniques:
- Hand-me-downs to family and friends - I've already weeded about 10 pair of pants I didn't wear and gave them to a friend. Another friend got all my camisoles that were in great shape, but I never wore. I've got some maternity I'm going to give to a prego friend and Rob has some slightly-worn pants that would be good work pants for Dad.
- Consignment store - There's a great consignment shop just down the street from one of my work sites, so I'm taking a few things there. I've never taken anything to consignment before, so I'm eager to see how it works out.
- City-wide garage sale - This is coming up in a couple weeks, so I've got time to prep everything that doesn't go to friends or consignment. And what doesn't sell, goes to ...
- Goodwill or a similar charity. No packing it away thinking I'll like it and/or fit into it sometime later. A nice thing about the consignment store is that if my items don't sell by the end of the season, they send them to one of the local charities. Perfect!
- Trash - Anything stained or in a shape I wouldn't even want handed down to me is going in the trash or the rag bin.
So, that's my plan! We'll see how it all works out. Stay tuned...
