Memorial Day Weekend

[Finally! I've been trying to work on this post all week and blogspot finally allowed me to add photos!]

We tried to make the most of our Memorial Day weekend this year, because 1. we've never done anything special for Memorial Day Weekend since we've been married due to work schedules, and 2. Rob was going to be in Joplin for the whole week following assisting with patrolling the tornado-damaged areas.

On Sunday night, we took Brandon to his very first Springfield Cardinals game! Of course, this required a trip to the store to get him a Cardinals shirt for the season. (He had several shirts last summer, but we never made it to a game!) He had to be decked out in red!

We decided to get general admission tickets so that he'd be able to run around in the grassy area (and we were pretty sure that would happen since he rarely sits still for more than 20 minutes!) We'd never sat in general admission before. It certainly gave us a new perspective on watching the game from behind the field! We took a blanket to sit on and stocked B's diaper bag so that we wouldn't have to figure out something for him to eat at the concession stands. Sure enough, within 20 minutes, he was roaming around!

He did great the whole game! I think we left the game around 9:00 pm. He was out like a light within a few minutes of getting in the truck (as expected)!

Then on Monday, we decided to head down to Silver Dollar City to catch the last day of the Bluegrass and BBQ Festival. We'd forgotten to hit the petting zoo area the last time we were there, so we headed there first. B got up close with some of the goats and got to look at the bunnies.

He wasn't hesitant at all with the goats.

After some requisite barbecue for lunch, we headed down to the treehouse for some frolicking in the water and some plastic ball play time. (And once we got home, we realized we'd missed a totally new section for kids! We'll hit that in a couple weeks during Kids Fest.)

Notice Dad is shooting the ball gun and B is sucking up ammunition? Shouldn't this be the other way around?! ;)

We got a couple hours in at SDC and then headed home so B and Rob could take naps before we headed to our friends', Chris and Renee, house for a Memorial Day cookout. Brandon and Chloe had quite a time on the swing set!

So glad we got all that time in together over the weekend, because it was a long week with Rob gone!
