It was a big weekend for Brandon! He had his first sleepover with his Aunt Shawna, Uncle Ray, and Cousins Wesley and Ashton while Robert and I spent the evening in Branson with friends. He did great! Aunt Shawna and Cousin Ashton came down Friday night to hang out and help Brandon kind of get used to them. Brandon totally took to Ashton as soon as they got here.
On Saturday morning, we were a little concerned for possible meltdowns when it came time for them to leave. (Partially because he had a meltdown when we went outside to put his things in the car and left him in the house with just Ashton. We could hear him wailing from outside!) But, that didn't happen when we loaded him up! We did things a lot like how we do when we take him to daycare during the week. We kept the goodbye short and happy. A few hours after leaving, Aunt Shawna updated us that he didn't cry at all on the way home! Awesome!

They had lots to do out in the boonies at their house! He got to ride the go cart. He ate lots of freeze pops. He tried on Cousin Wesley's football gear. He played with all the dogs. He colored. He even got to pick out a toy on a Wal-Mart run. Aunt Shawna said he had a toy all picked and in the cart when they walked by the books and he wanted a book instead. [Insert proud mama grin!]
After breakfast with our friends and a little shopping, we made our way north to pick up the little man.

Following some Wii dance games, chit chatting, and pizza, we made our way home. As we're driving, Shawna started texting us that the weather was bad back in our area. At the same time, my mom was calling to tell us the same thing. Then Shawna started texting that Joplin had been hit bad by a tornado. Luckily, we drove through the storm and made it home safely.
Just as soon as we got home and had our safe area cleared for taking cover, Rob was on the phone with his colleagues getting guys together to go to Joplin for rescue and recovery efforts after the tornado that ripped through there just a few hours before. What a guy. He was running on 10 hours of sleep over the past 48 hours and then he's packing up to spend the entire night helping in a disaster area. He's truly a selfless hero. He doesn't even pause when duty calls.
What a weekend...
